Create Your FSA ID
Watch the video above!
An FSA ID is really just a username and password that you’ll need to log in to your US Department of Education account to:
- Complete and submit your FAFSA
- Access your financial aid information at any time
- Electronically sign legal documents. It has the same legal status as a written signature.
- Protect your FSA ID and don’t share it with anyone.
If you’re filing your FAFSA as a dependent student then one of your parents will also need to create their own unique FSA ID that they can use to help with your financial aid forms (and the financial aid forms of any of your siblings.)
If your parent isn’t able to create an FSA ID for some reason (not an ideal situation but it happens), you can still file your FAFSA electronically but at the end of the form you’ll have to print out the signature page for them to sign and then mail that in before your FAFSA can be processed.
It might take a few days before you’re assigned your FSA ID after applying for it so be sure to get it set up before you’re ready to sit down to get to work on your FAFSA form.
